Didactics and History of Mathematics

Welcome to the website of the working group Didactics and History of Mathematics!

The Didactics and History of Mathematics working group works and researches in a variety of ways on current and historical issues relating to the teaching and learning of mathematics.

The Didactics of Mathematics team is involved in empirical research into mathematical teaching and learning processes. One of our focal points is the development of theories on mathematical learning and teaching. This results in constructive points of connection for the development and conceptualisation of learning environments for schools and universities.

The Maths Historians in the working group focus on the history of mathematics in the early modern and modern periods. They are interested in questions relating to the history of concepts as well as those concerning the communication of mathematical knowledge. The possible application of historical content in school and university teaching is also taken into account.
