Research Orientation and Fields of Work

The team is involved in empirical research into mathematical teaching and learning processes. To this end, we examine everyday or specifically developed learning situations, videograph them and analyse the data systematically. One of our focal points is the development of theories on mathematical learning and teaching. This results in constructive points of connection for the development and conceptualisation of learning environments for schools and universities.

1. Visual Aids and Objects in Primary School Maths Lessons

  • Conditions for learning mathematics with visual aids
  • Calculating with objects - sociology of objects

2. Language and Maths

  • Reasoning and arguing in maths lessons
  • Multilingualism as a resource for learning maths
  • Bilingual teaching-learning processes

3. Heterogeneity

  • Inclusive learning settings: learning together from mathematical difficulties to potentials
  • Understanding concepts in primary and lower secondary level

4. Learning and Teaching with Digital Media

  • DigiMal: Digital teacher training at the university
  • Teaching-learning processes with digital media in maths lessons
  • Learning with digital whiteboards

Research on Digitalisation

Digitalisation is playing an increasingly important role both in primary school teaching and in university teaching. We are very active in teaching and research in this area in mathematics didactics with a focus on primary schools. Here you can find our current projects on digitalisation in connection with mathematical learning.
